About Paul Epstein

Paul Epstein is an Emmy-nominated Executive Producer, Writer, and Director with more than 20 years of experience in television, film, and digital media.

Based in New York, Paul has produced scripted, factual, documentary, and news programming for networks and streamers including Peacock, MSNBC, History, National Geographic, Discovery, and INSP. His work has ranged from politics and investigative journalism to true crime, history, science, and large-scale factual drama.

Recent work includes The Tall Tales of Jim Bridger for INSP, multiple seasons of Into the Wild Frontier, and the Peacock true-crime documentary series Who Killed Robert Wone? Into the Wild Frontier became INSP’s most-watched series during its first season.

Paul began his career working as an Assistant Director on more than 30 independent feature films before moving into television, where one of his first jobs was as a Field Producer on the second season of The Apprentice. His Executive Producer credits include Seduced by Speed for Discovery, Navy SEALs: Brothers in Arms for History, Capital Crimes for MSNBC, The 93 Victims of Samuel Little for Investigation Discovery, and MSNBC’s investigative documentary series American Swamp.

His feature directorial debut, The Last Harbor, won the Grand Prize at the Liège International Film Festival in 2011. He was nominated for an Emmy as a Director of the educational series We Are New York and has worked as a Director or Producer on Emmy-nominated series including Gunslingers, The Men Who Built America, and A Crime to Remember.

Paul’s work is built around finding the strongest way into a story and carrying it from the first idea through production and final post. He has developed and launched original series, directed extensively in the field, worked with writers, producers, editors, and on-camera talent, and led large production teams across multiple genres.

More recently, he has also been producing short-form digital video and political media, bringing the same editorial and production instincts to faster-turn work built for contemporary platforms.

Paul is a member of the Directors Guild of America and is represented by the Gersh Agency. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School and a BA in English Literature from the University of Maryland.
